What is the Oman eVisa?
The Oman eVisa is an electronic travel authorization that allows eligible foreign nationals to apply for and receive a visa online without visiting an embassy or consulate. It is issued by the Royal Oman Police through the portal at evisa.gov.om. The eVisa is linked to your passport electronically and covers tourist, business, and transit visits.
Who needs an Oman eVisa?
Citizens of 103 eligible countries need an eVisa to enter Oman. The only exceptions are GCC nationals (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar) who can enter with their national ID card. Citizens of non-eligible countries must apply through an Omani embassy. Check the [complete eVisa guide](https://e-visa-oman.com/evisa-oman-guide/) for eligibility details.
Is the Oman eVisa the same as a visa on arrival?
No. The eVisa must be obtained online before you travel. Visa on arrival is being phased out for most nationalities. Even if your nationality qualifies for a visa on arrival, the eVisa is recommended because it eliminates uncertainty and reduces wait times at immigration.
How long is the Oman eVisa valid?
Validity depends on the visa type. A 10-day tourist visa allows a stay of up to 10 days and must be used within 30 days of approval. A 30-day visa allows up to 30 days. A 1-year multiple-entry visa allows unlimited entries over 12 months with stays of up to 30 days each. See [Oman visa types](https://e-visa-oman.com/oman-visa-types/) for full details.
How do I apply for an Oman eVisa?
Visit evisa.gov.om, create an account, select your visa type, fill in personal and travel details, upload your passport scan and photo, pay the fee, and submit. The [step-by-step application guide](https://e-visa-oman.com/how-to-apply-oman-evisa/) walks you through each stage in detail.
How long does the application take?
Filling out the online form takes approximately 15-20 minutes if you have all documents ready. Processing and approval take 1-4 business days. Many applications are approved within 24-48 hours. Learn more about [processing times](https://e-visa-oman.com/oman-evisa-processing-time/).
Can I apply on my phone?
Yes, the eVisa portal is mobile-responsive. However, uploading clear document scans is easier from a desktop or laptop. You can start the application on your phone and continue on a computer using the same login.
Can someone else apply on my behalf?
Yes, a travel agent or family member can complete the application for you. They need all your personal information and documents. The email used for the account should be one you have access to, since all notifications go to that address.
What documents do I need for an Oman eVisa?
You need a valid passport (6+ months validity), a passport-sized photo (white background), and supporting documents depending on your visa type. Tourists need hotel booking and travel itinerary. Business travelers need an invitation letter from an Omani company. Full [visa requirements](https://e-visa-oman.com/oman-visa-requirements/) are detailed in our guide.
What are the passport requirements?
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your planned entry date into Oman, have at least 2 blank pages, and be in good condition (no damage, water stains, or torn pages). Dual nationals should use the same passport for application and travel.
What are the photo requirements for Oman eVisa?
The photo must be in JPEG format, minimum 400×500 pixels, taken against a plain white background, showing your full face with a neutral expression. No sunglasses, hats, or head coverings (except for religious reasons). The photo should be taken within the last 6 months.
Do children need their own Oman eVisa?
Yes, every traveler including infants and children must have their own individual eVisa with their own passport. Children cannot be included on a parent’s visa. Each child requires a separate application and the same fee as adults.
How much does an Oman eVisa cost?
Fees depend on the visa type: 10-day tourist visa costs 5 OMR (~$13 USD), 30-day tourist visa costs 20 OMR (~$52 USD), and 1-year multiple-entry visa costs 50 OMR (~$130 USD). See the [complete fee breakdown](https://e-visa-oman.com/oman-evisa-fees/) for all types.
What payment methods are accepted?
Visa and Mastercard credit or debit cards are accepted. Your card must have international transaction capability enabled. Notify your bank before making the payment to prevent fraud blocks. Payments are processed in Omani Rials.
Are visa fees refundable if my application is rejected?
No, all visa fees are non-refundable. The fee covers the processing of your application regardless of the outcome. To avoid wasting fees, ensure your application is complete and accurate before submitting.
Are there any hidden fees?
The official eVisa fee is the only charge from Omani authorities. Your bank may add a foreign transaction fee (typically 1-3%) and currency conversion margin. Avoid third-party visa services that charge additional service fees – apply directly through evisa.gov.om.
How do I check my Oman eVisa status?
Log in to evisa.gov.om with your registered credentials, navigate to “My Applications,” and check the status column. Statuses include Submitted, Under Review, Approved, Rejected, or Additional Info Requested.
What does “Under Review” mean?
Your application is being processed by the Royal Oman Police. This is the normal status between submission and approval. Most applications stay in this status for 1-4 business days before being approved.
My application has been pending for over 5 days. What should I do?
Check your email (including spam folders) for any requests for additional documents. Log in to the portal for any alerts. If no communication has been received, use the contact form on evisa.gov.om with your application reference number and passport details. Do not submit a duplicate application.
Can I speed up the processing?
There is no official expedited service. The best way to minimize processing time is to submit a complete application with high-quality documents. Applying during non-peak seasons and avoiding holidays also helps.
Why was my Oman eVisa application rejected?
Common reasons include: passport validity under 6 months, blurry or incomplete document scans, name mismatch between application and passport, previous immigration violations, insufficient financial proof, or duplicate applications. You will receive an email stating the specific reason.
Can I reapply after rejection?
Yes, you can reapply after addressing the reason for rejection. Fix the specific issue cited (renew passport, provide clearer scans, correct name spelling) and submit a new application with a new fee. There is no waiting period between applications.
Can I appeal a rejected Oman eVisa?
There is no formal appeals process for eVisa rejections. The recommended approach is to address the rejection reason and submit a new application. For complex cases, contact the nearest Omani embassy.
Will a rejection affect future applications?
A single rejection for a procedural reason (missing documents, incorrect information) will not negatively affect future applications once the issue is corrected. However, rejections due to security concerns or immigration violations may impact future eligibility.
Can I extend my Oman eVisa?
Certain visa types can be extended through the Royal Oman Police offices in Oman. Tourist visas can typically be extended for an additional 30 days by visiting an ROP office before the current visa expires. An extension fee applies.
What happens if I overstay my Oman visa?
Overstaying results in fines of 10 OMR per day for the first 10 days, increasing thereafter. Extended overstays can lead to detention, deportation, and a ban from re-entering Oman. Always leave before your visa expires or apply for an extension in time.
Can I enter Oman by land with an eVisa?
Yes, the eVisa is valid at all entry points – airports, land borders, and seaports. Land crossings from the UAE (such as Hatta-Al Wajajah and Al Buraimi) accept eVisa confirmations. Carry a printed copy along with your passport.
I have dual nationality. Which passport should I use?
Apply using the passport you will travel with. Choose the passport that offers better eligibility and visa conditions. Do not switch passports between application and travel – the eVisa is linked to a specific passport number.
Can I travel to Oman with a passport that has less than 6 months validity?
No. The 6-month passport validity rule is strictly enforced. Airlines may deny boarding, and immigration will refuse entry. Renew your passport before applying for an eVisa if it expires within 6 months of your planned entry date.
Do I need a return ticket to get an Oman eVisa?
While not always mandatory for the application, a return or onward ticket is strongly recommended. Immigration officers may ask for proof of onward travel at the border. Having a confirmed departure date also demonstrates your intent to leave before the visa expires.
